You can tell the anime no longer has a companion use for Iris when her mascotmon was allowed to fully evolve. Haxorus has none of Axew's personality, it's entirely generic now. Ironic that this is what Dawn's Piplup was so terrified of when he refused to evolve, to the point of Dawn getting an Everstone for him so he won't have to worry about it.

Hop explicitly said “Does anything scare Haxorus” and Iris said “he’s no longer timid” in her first episode. Axew’s arc is about becoming more confident and being raise into a strong Haxorus which he’s done. Dawn is useless while Haxorus is a beast.
