also in that scenario, are you allowed to target the spot that WOULD be tatsugiri?

The only nerf I can see is Order Up no longer stat buffing after Tatsugiri faints in his mouth. There's counterplay with prankster+haze and trick room+clear smog. If you see an opponent try to set up turn 1 with Tatsugiri, you let them kill themselves then trick room. Armarouge is meta relevant and covers both bases.

The ranking system doesn't mean much right now, it's just playing a lot at the start of the season same as Swsh. I have been in the top double digits of master at the start of Swsh seasons and I'm trash.

Yeah, there's no way they intended for Tatsugiri to be able to die inside of Dondozo, completely negating the intended drawback of the interaction (Dondozo gets boosts, but you're kind of 1v2 until he dies)

All you have to do is start using Haze. Use Haze, or anything similar, and it's just one Pokemon and they're also down one Pokemon. You also have the option of just putting Opportunist Espathra on the field and they just can't do it without being punished. Even seeing Espathra on team preview is going to make them hesitant to even play Dondozo. It's not that the strategy is broken, it's that the things that undermine it are not commonly used (yet!)

It's clearly not intentional for that event to occur.

Don't mistake me as someone who is opposed of the strategy because it's a bug, I think it's hilarious and not game breaking. But the game doesn't do anything that makes it seem like it's an intended event to occur. it does the opposite.

It's clearly too strong and unintended, yes there are maybe 2-3 things that counter it, that's still way too centralizing. No other metagame has been this centralizing right from the get go. IIRC Sun/Moon had a lot more diversity than lol play the big fat fish or counter it with haze or lose

They 100% know he would faint from either weather effects or status conditions. The problem here is: 1) the interaction with Order Up continuing 2) the model staying hidden. The latter is most likely a bug that will be fixed, but the former is questionable.

He doesn't get effected by weather conditions while on dondozo, the only way he can die is from poison/burn being inflicted on him before being consumed. The game effectively treats him as out of the game while commander is in effect.
It genuinely looks like an oversight.

Now that I think about it, I wonder if perish song works on tatsugiri if it's applied before hes consumed.

Way to much setup for that to work. You have to damage the Tatsugiri to the point of it fainting from poison when you send out Dondozo. If your opponent recognizes this, the would be able to easily stop it

Its easy to beat with little investment in your team. The "combo version" is an unstable mess and the normal version has a lot of bad matchups.
Dondozo is perfectly fine, he's viable but he's not broken.

He was popular early because he's busted when people don't understand what he does.
