If your group took so much time to set it up and OHKO it, that it triggering the second phase of the fight left you without enough time to remove it's remaining HP, it was a bad strategy, considering the multi phase nature of the fights.
Squandered time, and misunderstanding of the mechanics are the only way this very unlikely scenario could come to fruition. Which means it's either a lie to make the game look bad, which is strange, because there's a myriad of ways to do that without resorting to lying.
