Now we have sub-Legendary Pokémon with absolutely insane stats and broken Abilities. It started with the Tapu and most UBs; continued with Urshifu, Regieleki, Calyrex, and the horses; and is absolutely in your face here.
Three of the four Ruinous Pokémon are absolutely broken. Two are offensive monsters, and the third is one of the most powerful walls ever made with bulk that makes even Lugia shudder. They all have an Ability that is overpowered in Singles and enhances what the Pokémon is meant to do. Game Freak makes ordinary Pokémon so strong now that unless a sub-Legendary Pokémon has mini-maxed stats and exclusive Abilities that completely change the competitive landscape, it is useless.
As far as lore goes, they have a very simple and relatively unassuming presence. Nothing like the Lake Guardians or the Tapu which shaped their region’s mythology, or the Legendary Beasts and Forces of Nature that actively influence the environment around them. They’re treated like the Legendary Titans in a sense.
Design wise I like Chien-Pao the most and Ting-Lu the least (just the face is eh).
