Why isn't the map smaller?
It would be far more enjoyable if it was.
There's just a ton of empty space that could have just been not there in the first place.

It's not an argument against open world, it's an argument against the size of it.
Skyrim had quite a bit smaller map than something like witcher 3, but it was far more dense than it and felt better because of it.
I don't mind them recycling assets, but at least give us something to do.
Or would you mind telling me what you can do in SV other than follow the story if your mons are leveled correctly and you already have a team you like?
Keep in mind that the vast majority of pokemon players do not care about completing the dex.

wtf? completing the dex is the main point of the story mode. It's the only reason to play the games other than to getting through it for access to competitive teambuilding resources. Why do you think people are so mad about the national dex

You get to the correct level far earlier than you're done exploring the relevant area.
Capturing every mon from an area is not realistic. Barely anyone did that in the older gens. And while it's easier to do it here, there is no reason to.
You had Arceus to look forward to in PLA for completing the dex. Here you have nothing besides a charm that increases your shiny rates a bit lol.

Barely anyone completed the dex in the past and that still didn't change. There are too many mons and not enough incentive to do it.
