They give 8 extra EVs per faint/battle
Every Pokemon in your party gets EVs along with Exp.
This means if you want to train a full team for speed you can buy 6 weights, give one to each mon and then train them all at once.
Idk if that convoluted to you, it's pretty easy imo.
