Larry is an absolute genius of a character. At his gym, he uses Normal type Pokémon so the common answer to that is to use Fighting type Pokémon, the only counter to Normal type Pokémon. When you make it to the Pokémon League, you will be surprised to see that Larry is also a member of the Elite Four. If you did not know any better and were to go in completely blind without any prior knowledge or looking it up, you would expect to go in this fight going against Normal type Pokémon since you already know Larry uses Normal types, so the natural thing to do would be to bring Fighting type Pokémon. However, once you start the battle Larry tells you that he does not use Normal types as an Elite Four Member. Instead he uses Flying types, a complete counter to Fighting type Pokémon. This can throw the player for a loop and completely destroy whatever comp a Pokémon trainer brings to battle Larry as they think they brought a comp to counter Larry but instead get uno reverse carded and get countered by Larry instead. What an absolute sigma.
