Imagine writing a plot this bad. Even when the game is trying to convince you and Arvin that she actually loved him (with all those photos of him in the lab and the IA telling him how her mother loved him) but that's all, who cares??

The AI cared more for Arven than the actual professor did. The AI comes to realize this during the final boss fight and tries to offer its own words of praise for him instead, because the professor was both batshit insane and long dead.

Arven really makes no sense, even if someone doesn't care about her absent mother/father... Who in the world doesn't want to keep believing they love you?? No one. But that's the one part he was conflicted about it when the AI spoke after the fight. He thought his parent stopped giving a shit about him, but the AI said they loved him still, which made him emotional and confused. It seems like he doesn't really know who or what he should believe.

Some people don't really realize when something traumatic just happened to them, and it's not until weeks or even months later that it clicks and they have a total breakdown. That's why sometimes in funerals you'll see the deceased's parents, siblings, partner, etc. be all "Hi :D thanks so much for coming! I'm sure [dead] would've loved it haha, grab a snack!" and you're wondering why they're so chill and it's just that, it simply hasn't sunk in but when it will it'll be ugly. Same with theft, rape, any crime really.

I saw my grandmother 2-3 times a week until she got sick and passed away. I was decently close to her, moreso than Arven could've been with his parent, and when I came home from work to find out she was gone, I didn't know what to do with the information. I was sad and a little regretful that I couldn't see her but otherwise I was okay. Everything finally sunk in at her funeral where I was a mess.
Arven's weird reaction came off to me like he's forcing himself to put on a brave face at the very least, but he also could've grieved long before we met him, since he mentioned he had a feeling that had been what happened. He's probably not truly okay, though.

honestly there's nothing wrong with what arven is doing as a character. he's showing textbook coping mechanisms and unhealthy ones at that. I think people are just distracted from this with how the other characters don't react in an appropriate way. Reminds me of when arven first talks to the other 2 about his father never being around on the way down to area zero and penny goes on about "jeeze well my dad just loves me TOO much, such a pain"

arven is chill because he finally gets that it wasn’t his fault, or that his parent hated him or he wasn’t good enough for them but that they really just prioritized their work more because that’s just how they were and there was nothing he could do to change that

I had a laugh when they’re talking to the director and he says something like oh well, guess their job was more important because it sounded very much like what a person would say after coming to terms with that sort of thing

I'm not saying he should have end up being depressed, he just needed more time. More focus on his character. He has his suspicions that his mom/dad is already dead given that they didnt reply to his emails for quite some time. He just want to make sure that his suspicions were right when the AI asked them to go to Area Zero to meet up.

Also, he didnt have the best of relationships with his mom/dad so I mean I dont see a reason why he need to have this depressing vibe when he found out that they are actually dead. Like would you mope around for weeks or even months if you found out that your mom/dad is dead and you didnt have a good relationship with them.

Why would he be crying a lot over a parent that had essentially died for him years ago? The reality of them actually being dead was obviously very shocking and sad for him, but not to the point of uncontrollable sadness. Because he's literally spent most of his life without his parents

this is the same place where someone posted their shiny pokemon AT THEIR GRANDMOTHER'S FUNERAL.
hardly anyone in this thread know what it's like to lose someone. even if they did, everyone copes differently.
I'm sure arven didn't know what to do with all this info dump: real parent is dead, other parent no where to be found, supposed parent is AI, don't know if AI parent is showing computer feelings or what's left of the parent memory, AI parent is now gone
if you asked a sad person if they are okay, they are going to assure you that they are okay. they don't want you to know how they truly feel cause it'll bring everyone down and they get up in their business, and blah blah blah.
I just hope we get to see some kinda closure or peace for this character

There's a part of me that wants to hope that he's still in shock from his parent being dead. For some people, the shock tends to numb their ability to feel sad over what happened. In a way, this might be worse since he's literally just holding himself together until he's alone.

This is what I thought about as well. He pretty much accepted it in his heart that it seemed like his parent wanted nothing to do with them. Only later to learn that not only did their parent die a long time ago, but they still cared about him. He is still in shock, but this is going to bring a lot of conflicting emotions. This is a remarkably difficult thing to imagine going through, the fact that he can't ever have that reconciliation, mourning what never was, the knowledge that his parent still loved him and cared about him despite everything that he was led to believe, and just that emptiness of what to do afterwards.

Face it, it's just GF being shit writers. Arven was my favorite character in the game and his arc was mostly done well but I don't understand why people here bend backwards to defend every piece of writing related to their favorite game even when it's clear that it's Gamefreak beinf incompetent as usual. They have the AI call out the professor as someone who basically went crazy due to their obsession but can't even have the stick to it so everyone just pretends they're amazing afterwards.

I guess this reaction to Arven makes sense if you've never lost someone close only to have your friends pull you trough the fallout.
When my grandmother--who raised me--died my friends would distract the fuck out of me. The night after she died I stayed over at my best friend's house and he had gathered all the lads to play Smash Melee together. The day after we all got together to watch some movies and stuff, I watched Digimon: The Movie for the first time then. And the day after that the father of another friend(Who had always like me and always called me "A good egg") organized a BBQ at his place for us and then fucked off himself to the pub to leave us alone.
I had a blast during these days, and I also felt immense guilt tha I was. I still cried at night when I was alone in the guest room, but I also knew that my boys had my back, which was nice.
Anyway, thanks for listening to my Ted Talk.

It's the way that "sasuga" can be both a compliment or an insult.
He's not justifying anything, he's just coming to an understanding on why he was abandoned.
Realizing "it isn't my fault my parents left me, they were just fucking insane, so everything they did makes logical sense" is a positive step.

He does want to find out more about their work because the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. It's necessary that Arven be the one who is setting up everything that will follow in the DLC.
