it is not always humanod, and yes that is one of Agumon's possible evolutions (Machinedramon/Mugendramon), all digimons have multiple paths like Eevees

major problem i have with digimon is when different digimon start digivolving into the same mon, that's when it gets mega confusing.

It doesn't even feel like (real) evolution. They just drew cavemen/primal and robot equivalents of each design. That's fun, but when done for every single one feels fucking uninspired. No actual research / inspiration into the evolution of actual elephants, no speculative evolution. Just "ha ha what if robot again".

Using Machinedramon is a bit disingenuous because that mon is a composite of various robotic and cybernetic Digimon. Yes, Metalgreymon can become it, but strictly speaking it's a mechanical version of Kimeramon.
