I personally never pick the water starter because there’s always dozens of water types in each region and at least a few of them are gonna be better than the starter.
Fire type is often pretty rare and most non-starter grass types are shit, so the starter is usually the best choice for both of those types.

I’m not the biggest Quaquaval fan but honestly for the concept of a dancing peacock who’s extremely fashion forward I can’t think of a better direction for them to have gone.

It also helps that the Quaxly line naturally flowed into their final evo what with them constantly styling their hair, as opposed to Litten who just became a wrestler out of nowhere.
