Okay fags, going into this, what should I expect?
I am unsure about the starter, I really like the idea og ghost typhlosion, but the flames will make or break it, how cool does it look?
Should I just go samurott instead?

Expect a comfy Pokémon experience like nothing before. Ignore the SV shills on this board. Arceus is miles better than SV will ever be. Typhlosion's flames look really cool. All three starters are really good honestly so you can't go wrong. Tip: I found it more fun to play through this game slowly and a bit at a time. Do all the sidequests and catch loads of Pokémon. They actually made catching Pokémon fun so make the most of it. I think my playthrough took 2-3 months and I only beat the superboss a couple weeks ago. Have fun.

Anyone who likes SV will likely like PLA, they're both part of the new 'open world exploration' type of experience.

The new ghost flames are cool, I prefer this variant to the original. Samurott's signature move looks the coolest in the style system though. Can't go wrong with either of them

Cyndaquil is the most reliable of the 3. No flames outside of battle - looks like a dopey stoner most of the time. Probably the most well thought out game and a new favorite of mine.

Lack of battles hamper it unfortunately but they get exploration right

You're thinking about it backwards. I like SV but I'm disappointed in a lot of what it does. I love PLA, my main criticism is the lack of trainer battles but it makes sense given the setting. If anything PLA set my expectations for what SV would be.

Honestly, a pretty damn good game.
By pokemon standards, I have 0 complaints. Solid entry. It's no Emerald, but it's certainly one of the better games we've gotten recently.

By industry standards, eh, it's a pokemon game.

I do really wish that its version of freeze and sleep had made it into the mainline games.

Valid critique gameplay wise, but it also makes sense. Not many people were battling Pokemon back in the ancient times, it was still fairly new. I think your purpose in the game is more research than battling anyway as well as all the "save the world" stuff

This. there's a lot of things I miss from PLA in SV. Not the least of which is better controls, you had to be really shit to accidentally hit the wrong mon in PLA, in SV auto-target will make a ball go 90 degrees out the left side of your head to hit a wingull 20ft away instead of the shinx in front of you. I eventually gave up using the button entirely and just walk directly into everything like I'm playing SWSH again.

PLA may be ugly as fuck but at least it has a cohesive artstyle and classic Pokemon character designs.

Controls are pretty good, all the ride mons feel fun especially flying is more realized than the sad gliding shit in SV.

Also pretty meaty post game that will last you a very long time honestly.
There are like three different "battle facilities/challenges that are very fun.
