Like putting in a little speed to outspeed a particular threat. Otherwise you're often going to want to go 252 in two stats. Mixing two defenses in particular is a bad idea, you don't want to be a jack of all trades and master of none. And you almost never want defense/SpD + an attacking stat on the same set.
>what would you go with?That depends on what you're going for. If you want a defensive set, going straight HP and defense would be fine. Leech Seed would be an option in this case. If you wanted an offensive set, you sure aren't going to outspeed anything, so might as well go HP and SpAtk.
