Saw one really good one floating around. Terra fire (burn) with defiant (intimidate) as the ability. Drain punch, taunt, bulk up, rage fist. Can’t remember what the optimal EV spread and nature is atm but I remember there was some investment in defenses. Held item i believe for this was leftovers. Sorry I can’t think of the exact set but it was something along those lines

There’s a reason so many things are broken this Gen, they’re balanced around doubles. Rape ape is meh there, good but not oppressive. It’s honestly not as bad as Garchomp since focusing it down is more likely to kill it before it gets the ball rolling. People playing singles are playing in the format it wasn’t balanced for. It’s why Gholdengo and Gargasalt exist. GF did a surprisingly good job of balancing for doubles this Gen.
>Terra types aren’t as big of a issue because you have more ways to react
>Double teaming handles stall pretty well unless status happens (amungus still good unfortunately)
>no more power up punch assault vest
>no more scald
It’s not perfect but it’s in a better place than you would expect so long as you don’t like paradox cancer into account

Meanwhile Basculin-W is sits in limbo despite also getting Last Respects, and Rabsca/Pawmot languish in UU despite having revival blessing

Is revival blessing really that useful? At worst your opponent gets a couple uses with pawmot or something with a leppa but it doesn't seem to be a world-ending threat

In theory it gives you 6.5 mons to use, 7 if you use leppa berry and find an opening to do it again.
In practice you just trade Pawmot and a ton of momentum to give a specific mon 50% more HP (before hazards) if it doesn't get cucked. Potentially useful in a team built entirely around one gimmickmon but nowhere near ganechanging or even a threat.

Pawmot is mostly a joke compared to what the doomposting about it was, it has to sacrifice some power or reliability to pack blessing, but it's frail as all get out and weak to common offensive types. Definitely worth considering, but it's decent. I don't see enough Rabsca to make a judgement on it, but it's probably a little more threatening strictly as a reviver with its high bulk and the resttalk revival bug, but it's also a Bug/Psychic type, and a defensive one at that, so even that's unreliable and it would have to waste a terastallization to escape it.

Because that sets a precedent that Smogon is too autistic to stay true too. If they do "complex bans" (ergo, banning a specific move/ability/item from a specific Pokemon) then that means they now have to address the same possibility for all 1000+ species and their respective commonly used sets and strategies.

it's only as good as the mons it enables, really.
i've had an absolutely insane amount of success using it with scarf chi-yu, saccing chi-yu for damage on its checks and then just blowing through them after the revive.
but that's more of chi-yu being super busted and worth sacrificing a team slot just to have it again, rather than revival blessing being good.
