They closely worked together outside of Area 0, his office is one of the profss old laboratories. He was there to see the first Raidon. He remembers the professor being a good person, and its clear the Professor started to get crazy, which fits well with Clavells reaction when he introduces (You) to the professor, being suspicious that the professor was successful with something unbelivable. This new assistant is clearly someone who came in later, after the prof got ditched and was not on the original team since the prof refers to them as new.
The only ones i can suspect are either Geeta or Jacq.
Geeta for her personality and being "La Primera", feels like being "The First" means more than being the champ. Afew ideas come to mind when the Prof invented Tera Orb, but she was part of the expedition team for being the strongest to defend the team while they explored Area0, and got first dibs on using Tera Orbs for battle. If she used that to become the region champion and popularize the use of Tera orbs, or she was already a champ before Tera Orbs which is why the team would request help from her, either can be possible.
Jacqs personality doesn't fit, its an easy troupe of "easy going clumsy guy is actually bad". Jacq was a scientist along with Clavell, and they worked together closely as well. He, for whatever reason, quits and becomes a teacher when the game starts. He could have been part of the same team of scientist under the prof just like Clavell, maybe not the main team that went into the expedition, but he had access to the profs research. None of the other teachers have access to Area 0, the history teacher specifically mentions this as you're only allowed to go in there with official access. I can still think of contradictions for Jacq but might as well air out the possibility
