I've yet to see a single convincing argument for why Megas were a bad thing
>They're overpowered
Probably the best argument there is since it actually does have some truth to it. Problem is that
A. Only a fraction of Megas were OP
B. There's nothing stopping Gamefreak from simply nerfing OP megas (especially if they got rid of the "all megas must boost the BST by exactly 100 points" rule, which I agree was dumb)
C. Powercreep existed before Megas and continued after they were added. Hell, Zacian-C was more broken than any of the megas were, and Calyrex-S probably would've been as well if Yveltal didn't hard counter it. And you could have both of those on the same team!
>They're ugly
Entirely subjective, I personally think most range from okay to good.
>They prevent old Pokemon from getting cross gen evos
Absolutely no reason GF can't give Pokemon with mega evolutions new regular evos. If Meowth, Eeevee and Pikachu can get Gigantamax forms despite all being NFE, then Absol, Houndoom and Altaria can get new evos. And yes Gigantamax and Mega Evolution are different mechanics, but it's proof enough that you can give a Pokemon both an evolution and a super-form.
>Gimmicks bad because gimmicks bad because gimmicks bad
Not an argument.
I'm honestly convinced that the only reason that people hate megas is due to a combination of "old good new bad", and people being too dumb to realize that megas are essentially just flashier versions of alternate forms, something we had for generations before XY and that no one had a problem with. The fact that there multiple people ITT who want megas to be retconned into being regular evos further convinces me of this.
