i was still a kid on the playground when gen 4 came out and 5/8 those evos were so retarded at very first glance i didn't even play them.
I still haven't played the gen 4 mainline games that's how much i disliked them.
Magnezone grew on me though.

The corocoro reveals had me hyped back in the summer of 06, Electivire and Weavile looked cool and Magmortar's reveal was widely anticipated. When I got my hands on the game however it was super fucking slow, so much so I never played Platinum

im a Hoenn baby, i like hoenn designs the most, then jotho ones. To me they are clean, part invented, part animal monsters.

However, I still like the experimentation from new designs, paradox pokemon, UB, overdesigned mons from new concepts or references.

Its the way to keep going and not be stucked in past, exploring and risking

Why is there so much revisionism about genwunners? I remember all of the hate that pokemon like Bidoof and the cross evos got. Not to mention Klefki got a lot of shit for being an objection. Why does everyone forget those and make it seem like they only specifically targeted Gen 5?

True in a relative sense, I'd add that people really need to accept that some people are bound to have a preference for the designs from the original games overall. The series artist has admitted that he has changed design philosophy over the years. The Pokemon from earlier gens were designed differently from the ones that came after. Hell, character design is visibly different from what it used to be. The original game director also handed control to someone else and the games themselves took on a new direction in some areas. The series shifted from being a reflection of Tajiri's own personal childhood in Japan with the addition of strange monsters with magic powers and became wild adventures in themepark-esque regions where the evil teams are trying to control god-pokemon that control/represent the very forces of nature so they can take over the world. People are naturally going to like the old stuff compared to the new stuff and vice-versa.

the phrase "genwunner" always comes across kind of weirdly to me, because most of these people don't unironically like Kanto nor do they replay Red/Blue/Yellow every now and then, nor do they even care for most of the original 151 Pokemon, so much as they just miss the time period where they could mold their entire identity around a media product and actually gain a social benefit from it, like a feeling of perpetual bitterness that it all ended

I've always liked it when they add an evolution for a pokemon in later generations.

but that's because
