You know, let's think about the map difference between the third versions of every generation
>Gen 1: a single house in Yellow, pretty much
>Gen 2: depends on your region, but the most notable one is the Battle Tower
>Gen 3: an entirely new base for Team Magma which is very neat, a tower with not too much going on there, a tunnel with not much going on until postgame, and a couple of postgame maps that are at least decent and at best the Battle Frontier
>Gen 4: pretty much just the Distortion Hallway and Battle Frontier
>Gen 5: I'd say they tack on a good third of a game's worth of content, between the new start and end and all the stuff in the middle there
>Gen 6: does not have a third version
>Gen 7: a couple of rooms that suffer from Gen 7's frequent lack of level design, but I think the tourist trap gym is fucking funny, and the Ultra Rooms that actually have lore are cool
So the real loser once they got the formula down is Gen 4, isn't it? I feel like I'm forgetting something there. Was the postgame volcano redesigned between versions like Cerulean Cave is? I probably should have also mentioned that particular version changes with every time it shows up it seems (only the RG and FLRG designs are the same, and if you're not Japanese you'd never know that).
