>>52616343Finally the chaotic noise of the kitchen ceased and was replaced with Mom quietly but carefully setting the table. Making sure every knife, fork, spoon, glass, plate, serving plate, etc. is in the proper place. Mom had a way of getting totally absorbed into what she was doing.
The peace was suddenly interrupted by the door slamming open
“Where’s the birthday boy, he’s gonna LOVE the gift I got him!”
Maya’s here.
The loud entry snapped Mom out of her focus. She was annoyed even more by Maya saying she alone got the gift. While it was technically true, Mom and Dad had made an agreement with Maya that she would say it was a gift from everyone. She was also here 40 minutes early.
“Welcome Maya! So good to see you! Kai, go help with her coat and I’ll run and set another place at the table for her.” Mom was very good at hiding whenever she was annoyed or upset.
Kai got up and helped her as instructed.
“Hey, thanks for coming” He said as he was helping with her jacket. He didn’t want to be so forward as to ask about the gift, but it was all that was on his mind.
“Yeah I wouldn’t miss this day for the world, let me keep my jacket” She said, brushing him off “I wanna show you your gift quickly, but act like it’s a surprise when I show you later in front of them”
The two of them stepped outside quickly. The chilly fall air was nipping at their cheeks. Maya reached into her bag and pulled out a pokeball.
“No way, are you serious?” Asked Kai.
“Yes!” Maya released the Pokémon, and a starly emerged, and began nervously flying around. “Happy birthday! He’s all yours, just be careful, he’s still not used to being in a pokeball so be extra gentle with him. He’ll warm up to you in a few days.” She recalled the starly before he could fly too far away.
