Wiglett isn't exactly a recolor in most places. Toedscool/cruel were last minute additions so they had less effort put into them.
While this does miss the point(this literally isn't convergent) its not because its a recolor.

The issue is that its main form is of the bug, i suppose the leeway is sorta there though really.
While it makes less sense than even what we have; it would probably be the ball form 90% of the time.

Convergent Pokemon is the same gimmick as regional variants where it's just a recolour with differences but still the same Pokemon. There's no way that'd be a convergent Pokemon.

This is gigatard headcanon.
They almost certainly just swapped the mushroom&magikarp from dlc&base game releases late in development so that the Karp hinted in PLA could arrive with the update that enables PLA evos in SV.
They outsource Pokémon model creation and everything we'll get in Gen. IX has been modeled for at least a year and passed concept clearance years ago. Realistically the Karp line was ready for PLA but held back specifically for SV update promo shit.

I sincerely hope this is bait. All of them are programmed in with abilities and everything, a Stantler taught Psyshield Bash via mirror herb evolves into Wyrdeer as it does in PLA, and they showed us Hisuian Zoroark in the initial reveal stuff and outright said they'd be coming to SV.

The dex entry for Wiglett and Toedscool explicitly mention that they resemble Diglett and Tentacool and have similar names. In terms of what they are using to group them together, Bellibolt is not Chansey since the names and stats are not similar and there is no mention of being similar.

That’s not really the point. If anything the problem with this is it’s more like a re-imagining of Voltorb and Electrode themselves and that disturbs the sense of their cohabiting the same world. Contrast with Toadscool the significance of which is informed by Tentacool. Wiglett I think actually just was Paldean Diglett and they changed it to pack out the concept a bit
