If all they cared about them was "do they make money" then we wouldn't be seeing any (the TPC method of video game development). the fact they're continuing to make them proves they see it as a training label, give A. N. Other staffer a budget and team, let him learn to be a Director, hope he takes the lessons learned on said project to his regular day job on Pokémon, without having to risk Pokémon's integrity just to train a monkey to shell peanuts.

It's a lot easier to make a game look and run well when the scope is small, and Town had a much smaller scope than any Pokemon game, Scarlet and Violet especially. Fewer characters, smaller environments, less animation. It was also a game they could afford to delay if necessary.

Drill Dozer was a fun game, though the rumble felt like something of a gimmick. I think it got pretty good reviews too, so I'm not sure why they didn't follow up on it, unless they were trying to compare its success to pokemon.
