Jumping into the argument with my own take

>The Professors grew up reading hokey science fiction magazines and listening to rumors about Pokécryptids. Roaring Moon is based on the Professor’s concept of mega evolution without seeing it in person.
>The third legendary sleeping at the bottom of Area Zero is a wish fulfillment godlike entity that brought the Professor’s wishes to life through their imagination based on these rumors and magazines.
>These Pokémon are actual living beings that never could or would exist, therefore they’re paradoxes of both past and future
>The Professor becomes obsessed saving these Pokémon because they “prove” their theories even though ironically it was the Professor who created them
>The “time machine” is not literally a time machine, it’s a wish granting machine that takes the users imagination and deepest desires and manifests them as reality. It can act as a time machine if the user (the AI) wants it to be one.
>The AI wasn’t built either, it was wished into existence by the legendary as well.
