I want to make a competitive mono-Ground team, /vp/. So far my team consists of Gastrodon (nicknamed "Friend"), Hippowdon (the only actual Ground-type with Sand Stream. Who thought that was a good fucking idea?), and Camerupt. I'm not AGAINST legendaries but other than Zygarde, I can't think of any that would really fit. Because of Drought, Groudon doesn't work. Thoughts?

Just a good pokemon in general, hits hard and can take some hits back.
Could also take advantage of Sand Veil with Hippowdon on the same team, although I think Rough Skin is still considered to be its best ability. Either could work

I had a feeling Garchomp would be the first suggestion. It feels... too easy? But I also understand that my options are limited. So sure, Garchomp will be my fourth. And in this case, Sand Veil is probably better than Rough Skin.

I won't use Arceus-Ground. The others are good suggestions. I did consider Sandaconda as it's the only other Ground-type besides Hippowdon with a way of auto-setting Sandstorm... but Christ does it suck.

It is the obvious pick for a ground mono team, yeah. Loads of teams on monotype will run pseudos or straight up legendaries though, so I wouldn't be too concerned about that.

Toedscruel and Great Tusk could also be good options for type coverage. Toedscruel gives you a way to hit water for super effective, although Gastrodon already gets in their way quite a bit. Toedscruel would also mean you end up with two 4x Ice weaknesses, which isn't ideal.

Krookodile could also be a decent option, since its got two good abilities to work with.

Great Tusk has a better Attack stat and general bulk compared to Donphan. Even its speed stat is slightly better.
It'll also bring more coverage to your team, since it can access stuff like STAB Close Combat - but since you seem to be running a sand team, Great Tusk won't be able to take advantage of its ability without holding a Booster Energy.

Okay. So so far it's Gastrodon, Hippowdon, Camerupt, Garchomp, and Great Tusk. Mamoswine was a good thought but I feel like it's better off in Hail teams.

Clodsire. It's a SpDef tank and comes with Water Absorb if you think you would need it. It's other ability is Unaware which could also be usefull. But honestly, I do not know how you would avoid getting swept by Iron Bundle simply clicking Ice Beam 6 times and 6-0'ing your entire team.

Unfortunately I have to recommend Landorus and Garchomp because you'll need some power to cover your shared ground weaknesses, especially Camerupt's. You can put Sand Force on Landorus rather than Intimidate, that might be cool. Sandaconda is an option if you want a secon way to get sandstorm going and want to inflict some status effects.
