I have a hard time imagining that Ritchie would still be a match for Ash. Ash has been through so many life-changing adventures by this point that I don't think any regular trainer like Ritchie could keep up.
The only time Ash is vulnerable is when he's building a new team, so if Ritchie challenges him in the middle of his next adventure in Paldea then maybe there'd be an interesting fight. But late-region Ash would crush him.

Ash's team was tired out because Team Rocket decided to stall him out by kidnapping him and forcing him to use his Pokemon to get back to the Indigo League in time, forcing him to use his disobedient backup Pokemon, the match was 3v3 instead of 6v6, sleep counted as fainting, and disobedient Pokemon counted as fainting (unwilling to battle).

The circumstances were bullshit, the rules were bullshit, and everyone blamed Ash for not training his Charizard properly when he didn't know how to get it under control (he had 8 badges) and didn't even want to use it for that match in the first place. Fucking horseshit.
