Reminder that they made Venusaur intentionally ugly because Bulbasaur and Ivysaur were so flawless they feared they will overshadow Charizard

Miyamoto as well, though I can't recall if he actually worked on those games or not. I know that Green was decided on because of how much the team felt Venusaur captured th soul of Pokémon, though.

Reminder that we have a pretty damn good idea of what Pokémon were designed when and know for a fact a proto Venusaur predates Charizard by a massive amount of time, years even.
So no, by the time Charizard was designed, Venusaur would have already been ugly, with no consideration for the lizard having gone into that design.

Sugimori's then later gave it warts and drunk eyes, so yes, Gamefreak made Venusaur ugly on purpose.
there's no other good reason for a company to sell an ugly monster for children, especially when they quickly decided to not put it on covers for worldwide release.
