What's up with all the abilities these last few generations that do so many things at once? I'm not complaining about it, they certainly make the Pokémon more interesting and useful. But I get the sense that when generation 3 came out they weren't really sure what to do with abilities, because a lot of them were very basic. Things like your attack couldn't be lowered, your speed goes up in rain, you can't be critted, etc. There is even data from what I understand for a Pokémon having no ability, meaning at some point they maybe even contemplated not having abilities on everybody. What changed? Generation 4 had pretty similar philosophy, 5 they got a little bit more interesting but then in 6 and 7 you had abilities that were just straight up tailor made for certain Pokémon with all sorts of bells and whistles. Which would you prefer? Going back to the simpler abilities, or continuing the strand of Pokémon getting specific and unique and sort of multifaceted abilities??
