Renegade comes with an optional speed up patch you can use, but I don't know if there's a similar patch for base Platinum.

Platinum with the following pokemon mod
All of them with that one mod that speeds it up too, wish I could remember the name but I can't find it. Emulator speedup works in a pinch

bdsp. don't listen to nostalgia babies. it has better selection of pokemon at earlier points in the game thanks to underground, fixed HMs and is much faster.

FRLG made RBY pretty much obsolete for me aside from Stadium
HGSS and GSC are even for me since GSC has Stadium 2
I still prefer RSE over ORAS despite liking that one too

well bdsp barely changes anything from dp and doesn't have much anything from platinum
there's no hms which is nice but considering how all eight hms can be split between two mons (tropius and bibarel) and you rarely need to use both it's really not that bad

To be honest HMs aren't an issue for me since I do actually like having less mons on my team since I don't really like grinding all 6 so 2 HM slaves isn't really something I'd be annoyed at

But to follow that up, if you can I'd say wait until the Gen V overworld patch is finished (hopefully early next year). It's gonna be cross-compatible with the Following Platinum patch and the Renegade Platinum patch, I'd imagine in the week or so after it comes out someone will roll all 3 into 1.

The only thing that sucks is HG/SS had that pokewalker thing that required a fucking IR sensor built into the cartridge itself. Insane the shit they pulled with that.

You can totally emulate but if I had to choose one console to buy instead of emulating, it would probably be a 3DS. The two screen setup with touchscreen doesnt feel right on anything else.
