That’s nice but obviously not the way the game was meant to be played. This fight is unwinnable without making very specific preparations beforehand

the only real non cheese method is any steel type. I used a Bastiodon during mine and it handled UNecc very well.

I felt like Subaru from Re:Zero during this fight spamming the quick restart hot key until I found a strategy that worked. I was way under levled too so that made it even worse.

If you played the game naturally, this was unavoidable. Your team should have been at 55-60 if you cleaned up most available battles up to this point. Necrozma is 65 in this battle but gets a huge stat boost which puts it on par with a level 80 or so.

If you power level your team for this battle, the following battles are against level 50ish teams. And that sucks the fun out of the end stretch of the game

You get a Focus Sash shortly before the fight, so you can take a hit and use Toxic, Endeavor + Prio or whatever can one-shot the thing.

Ultra Necrozma's stats are already crazy and it starts the fight with an omni boost.
Dragon/Psychic/Steel/Rock is also near perfect neutral coverage so resisting it's attacks is very difficult.
It is very likely to sweep an unprepared team due to overwhelming speed and offense.
Strategy helps a lot of course, but if you want to just unga your way through it like the average 12 year old you need like 12 to 15 levels on it to make a difference.

Oppressively high stats plus a +1 to all stats at the start of the battle. Not that bad on paper but it's shockingly hard if you're surprised after having been coasting through an otherwise simple game.

It’s not normal for Pokémon though, especially a game this deep into the trend of you being handheld through everything.

It’s beyond even being a challenge either. There’s plenty of battles you have to fight hard to get the win. This is just you get your shit slapped until Toxic finishes the job

I think if you're comfortable with using Rotom boosts, it's a reasonable level of difficulty. I think the game expected you to be doing that at this point, but most older fans couldn't accept it.

You get lucky, it can be one shot. However, if your team doesn’t have something fast and with a powerful super effective move, it will one shot your entire team. It can really take you by surprise if you go into the game blind and think your team can handle it with standard moves

Refresh bonus I suppose. Good way to hype up kids when their pokemon toughed it out so they wouldn’t be sad. Plus, if rng says that they lose, they’d probably get sent back to the Seafolk pokemon center and get to see the Poni blackout.

example of how pokemon's formula means you have shit designed boss battles. because everything does a fuckton of damage you either one-shot everything or they one-shot you.
necrozma was a shining example of this, either you have a bulky mon that survive the hit and you auto-win or it outspeeds and one-shots you team if you don't have a counter. they tried to rectify it with dynamax and tera raids by making the boss battles more drawn out but all of that is complete dogshit too. just go play any other RPG where combat is balanced around 1 boss and a party of 4.

Ultra Necrozma was more comparable to Evrae or Seymour Flux from Final Fantasy X. It was a really sudden jump in the difficulty that the rest of the game didn't prepare you for since it generally didn't ask much of you before then. So if you do end up hitting a wall against it, you've really gotta rethink your entire approach. It's nothing insurmountable, but it can really trip you up.

You can revive, use potions, use Z moves, change the pokémon to another one of your team made of 6. Having a 1vs2 was actually a really good challenge that make Totem Pokémon feel like bosses and kinda challenging.

I may have changed my lead pokemon or something and it definitely took a few attempts, but I beat him without any cheese strats, without being overleveled, and without amie bonuses or whatever. I might have used items in the battle, I don't remember. It's hard, but it isn't unwinnable for a conventional or unprepared team, you just aren't going to faceroll over it first try. A lot of the totems were like that, although to a lesser extent than Necrozma.
