Honestly this.
Wouldn't be bad if most Pokemon didn't feel like "Gen 5 version of existing Pokemon". It really felt like i was playing a license free version of the series or something.
Also I just really didn't like N much. But I never really like the wispy, mysterious bishounen types.
Speaking of N i think it really started the trend of NPCs who have way too much to tell the player. Your friends from your home town come to mind too.

I started with Generation 3/4, long before Gen 5 was even announced.
For me, I found the art style very alienating, and I didn't like much of the pokedex. But I will say I found it quite fun. I will say that it definitely deserves its place in the holy trinity.

The starters make no sense and looks ugly. Monkey trio is ugly. Swords of justice are all ugly fucks. Teriyaki Chicken was atleast really good in competitive. Why is the fossil gym normal and not rock? Stupid fucks. Place doesn't feel anything like America. The champion is some homeless Mexican.

Mix of multiple factors, back then it was probably the forced use of new pokemon, the designs of some pokemon (even if gen 1 had some questionable ones), and the fact that the region in BW1 and its progression is a fucking circle.

Nowadays its the fact everyone treats gen 5 as the best Pokemon games, when most are only referring to BW2 yet treat it like BW1 were a similar level of quality, annoys the shit out of people.

This is from a Gen 5 fan, i can see problems with my favorites.

Borts can’t stop bringing up these very average games whenever a new generation comes out. The fact that they couldn’t accept USUM were good games, and kept trying to shove B2W2 down our throats, made me a permanent hater of gen 5 and unovabortions.

Gen 5 is the exact middle ground between classic pokemon and nuPokemon. Gen 6 made burst mechanics, exp overhauls, fairy type etc.
