Would any Switch Pokemon game be a good first experience for someone who is only familiar with the franchise through anime?

For an anime experience, Scarlet and Violet are perfect because you're free to explore and fight as you like.
You just have to steel yourself for any glitches. They can be pretty bad depending on how new your switch is and what model. The original one has the best performance but still experiences slowdown and lighting issues.

What's the reason most people don't like SWSH?
Never played it, but it's looks a lot like XY and SM but for Switch.
I also remember something about national dex getting ditched with this entry.

Sword/Shield's good for that because all your encounters are battles and the characters are expressive like an anime.

I can only recommend LegoPee if you don't care about that and I can only recommend Legends if lack of Charizard isn't a dealbreaker.

In any event, I wouldn't recommend SV as your first Pokémon game.

None of the Switch Pokémon games are any good, but if I have to recommend one, it'd be Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee. It has the closest ties to the anime being a remake of Yellow and is the least offensive entry overall.

Not really. SwSh is awful, LGPE and BDSP are shitty basic remakes and PLA/SV while pretty great are very different from the games before it and starting with them before going backwards would be pretty awkward.

Let's use the process of elimination:
- SV, while decent, suffers from "where the fuck am I, where the fuck do I go?", needs you to remember too many buttons instead of assigning more items to the X menu and might feel overwhelming for a new player
- SwSh are pure garbage
- Let's Go is not a good entry to the franchise due to completely different (GO) mechanics.
- Same for PLA - too much stuff just works differently than in mainline games.
- That, sadly, leaves us with another subpar pair - Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and unless we get one of the classic games in virtual console that would be my answer.

No if you want to play actual good Pokémon games play all the DS games except dp and emerald as well as Crystal. Gen 1 if you enjoy nice glitches and nostalgia. If you really want to play a 3D game ORAS is the only one worth playing, the rest are garbage.

I don't think so, SwSh offers zero exploration and a really dull region while SV does away with several old conventions, LGPE uses the GO mechanics and Arceus is wildly different in general. Imo the best nugen game to introduce someone to Pokemon is unironically XY. Big regional dex, standard formula, easy, good music, colorful towns, generic evil team, etc.

Just get the newest game (Scarlet/Violet currently). You don't want to go with old games anyway, since it'll be no online, no events, nothing. Only mediocre singleplayer content (which is mediocre in every core pokemon game)

And if you don't like it, also try a mystery dungeon game (in which you play as pokemon), for switch that would be Mystery Dungeon Rescue Team DX which is pretty good, although i would suggest playing Mystery Dungeon Explorers of Sky on a NDS emulator, it's rightfully considered the best one. But DX is good too.

You have to remember, this is not about picking a game for a pokemon veteran who knows the mechanics inside out, it's about picking a game for someone who does not play pokemon at all and never had and this game is supposed to introduce him to mainline games. In this case I think picking a title with the biggest amount of classic, staple mechanics is the way to go, even if that title is one of the worse quality-wise.

LGPE aren’t bad at all. I dislike the catching mechanic, but it isn’t the complete worst thing in the world. Also has the benefit of being the original story/world.

Nobody’s first Pokémon experience should be SWSH, PLA or SV.
