Unpopular oppinion but the fighting system of the first gen was the best. The fact that init would increase crit rate and the TMs you could learn made a much better fighting experience. Also there was never a bigger challenge than pokemon yellow (ok maybe all symbols in emerald).
In my eyes they fucked up by "balancing" every fkn type to be one and the same shit. Why do you need a 120 special bug move? Bugs where never ment to be special hitters. Also the ratio of types to attacks where more original. You had a dragon and he was a dragon type and you had a ghost he was a ghost type. Today you have 20+ ghosts and they all look the same and know similar movesets. There was also no "bad" pokemon in gen1 because you could learn KO attacks as tms.
The thing back then was just the challange the pokemon where not that similar you hat to think which pokemon has which move today it seems like everyone knows every move and can learn 80+ attacks.
I just cant get over the low difficulty of newer gens its just to easy. Its the good games they dont make them these days... *sip*
