>>52658342"wee" is the absolute number one thing writers will use to say "this character is scottish". the irish say it too but it doesnt show up as much on irish characters, i find. at least, not without a lot of other irish stereotypes that make it clear the character is irish as opposed to scottish.
beyond that, it gets a lot more nuanced quite quickly. theres no one set of words/phrases that really stereoptype scotland because the accents/dialects here are very varied. i can go one town over and its like theyre speaking another language. there arent even really any universal slang words i can think of. any scottish words a writer throws in will probably just be a reflection of whatever scottish people theyve met, so its not something you can really get a feel for without living here and experiencing people from all over.
that said, most writers are not scottish (there arent many of us), so it wont be perfect, and itll be hammy. a good rule of thumb would be that if you can hear it in demoman or groundskeeper willie's voice, its intended to be scottish
