NTA but mega evolution does hurt the pokemon she was probably trying to limit its uses until the final. Also the more times someone is familiar with how your ace works it becomes easier to counter so in a tactical standpoint it was to limit it for the leon fight. Again it could be headcanon but thats was what i saw from the fight.

The only reason she didn't use mega-garchomp was because its design is unpopular and they wanted Cynthia vs Ash to end with a proper battle in Garchomp's iconic design, you fucking spergs.

If she’d forgone Dynamaxing Kiss, Mega Lucario would have one shot it with bullet punch. Then it would have been a fresh Mega Lucario vs Cynthia’s injured Mega Garchomp. Cynthia made the best play she could in that situation.

The whole reason she didn't use mega Garchomp was because her whole strategy for the battle was based on the element of surprise and throwing off Ash. She specifically didn't mega evolve Garchomp because everyone was expecting her to do just that. She wasn't holding back, she was trying to catch Ash off guard. I wish Ash's "epic sendoff victory" featured him learning important lessons, or callbacks to ways he'd lost in the past but this time overcoming them, tricks or ideas that show he's grown as a trainer...I don't know, anything.
Instead he just...wins.
Nothing more to it.
His pokemon use the same moves as always, they impact in the same ways, but this time when the epic dust cloud disappears the other pokemon falls instead.

It just felt so arbitrary.
Nothing at all was done narratively and cinematically to convey in any way whatsoever that this was the end of a journey and that this victory was built on past defeats and experiences.
He just won.

Not having it makes less sense. The world champions are just arbitrarily not using super moves a 10 year old mastered in less than a year…because…they just aren’t! Leon felt like he had reached the pinnacle of his own talents but he just couldn’t be assed to learn Z moves because uh…he just couldn’t.

Ash isnt the brightest and wants to use his other pokemon too. M8 made it very clear that Z-move/Gmax Pikachu is his strongest gimmick.
But him powering up Lucario with his own aura on top of the Mega, puts the dog close to that level as well.

More power level headcanon. You probably should just take the writing at face value, Leon is world champ because he’s the best there is not supposed to be any ambiguity here. Or is Steven stronger than Cynthia because while him and Cynthia both fought to their last Pokemon only Steven fought “full power” Ash since Cynthia didn’t lose to Pikas Z move lol
