Gen 4 is shit, gods are annoying, even if they're only avatars of gods and not the gods themselves, only cool legends are Regigigas because it added to Regi lore and Giratina is so cool that I can overlook it being a god of antimatter.
Gen 5 and gen 6 could've been cool but it's all mostly unexplored and ORAS did a fuckton of damage with the weather trio being planetary gods, the parallel mega universes shit and Hoopa/spacetime tears being the reason why so many legendaries are in Hoenn is just lazy.
Gen 7 was the final nail in the coffin, two words, Infinite Universes. If there are infinite universes, then none of them fucking matter.

It is uniromically a facet of having so many teenagers on the board; they grow up with the perception that the games increase in scale and ambition as they (the person) age. The mythos that underpin the games is something people really attach to and you can see the 7 stages of fucking grief in the responses to the lore post-gen 4; denial that Game Freak will never write a game with that scope, anger at the new style, bargaining that it's a compromise for better gameplay etc etc - before becoming like everyone else and just accepting that they're the same as they always were.

When they abandoned the Mega Timeline after Gen 7. A cool overarching storyline that had the first major implications for the series just dropped suddenly because they see Megas as interfering with marketing (new shit gimmicks every gen). Pokemon is soulless and ruled by money.

Gen 6 killed it for me when it dropped the whole multiple timelines thing.
I'd rather Pokemon simply not acknowledge timeline/lore inconsistences like a Pokemon suddenly having a new evolution or phenomena like Mega Evolution in another region that isn't talk about in past ones than it be because of differing timelines.

RB/GS were perfect I think, very local stories that you read or hear about while traveling.

RS/DP started to create le epic cosmology, where Pokemon created this or that.

BW/XY turned things down a bit. The legends are powerful but not gods (Xerneas/Yveltal even have a defined lifespan). They are more symbolic of some idea or a theme in the story.

SM is weird, because this is where we get into the multiverse, timelines and every person's save file being canon. It's a bit too meta for me. The power ceiling is completely destroyed, with more Pokemon having insane BST beyond at or above Arceus.

I think it is annoying that people are always trying to shove Arceus into the "almighty Christian creator entity" box. The "Pokegods" are Pokemon still but people have this stupid idea that they are unbeatable and would snap their fingers and you'd disappear from existence.

The only bit of pokemon lore i really care much about is the unown/arceus' 1000 arms connection, which i'm focusing on for my PTU campaign.

That said i mostly agree with >>52698695, except i was a hoennbab who was young enough around DPPt release that le epic cosmology was actually cool, and i stand by that they were executed properly. The only issue is the meta-problem where pokemon must be obtainable and therefore a 10yo catches god meme begins, which can be ignored for the sake of my immersion.

Gen 9 is Megaverse at the very least. Roaring Moon's dex entry mentions Mega Evolution in a roundabout way.
I wouldn't be surprised if there was some dialogue box somewhere that confirmed a connection between Paldea and Galar that confirms SwSh as Megaverse as well.

Already happened. Eiscue’s entry makes reference to a “cold, faraway land” that it came from, and Sonia’s book can be seen in the school library. You can’t read all of it, but the game explicitly tells you it’s “Galar: a history”, and makes reference to Bede destroying the mural and seeing the statues behind it.

Pokemon Multiverse concept was introduced in ORAS and strengthened in SM/USUM. After that, it fell into obscurity because later games no longer mention it. Supposedly, there are many universes in the pokemon multiverse. Some has Megas, some has some other gimmicks. Some has no gimmicks at all.
