So... what exactly happens when you catch pokemon with pokeballs? Do they get brainwashed into obeying you? Are they naturally hardwired to accept whoever captures them as their master? Or do they accept capture because they realize that it'd probably lead to a more comfortable existence than living in the wild?
I've heard of the "all pokemon are naturally attracted to humans and want to serve them" argument, but it falls flat on its ass considering the likes of Hatterene, Froslass and tons of ghost types have no qualms about murdering people. So... what is it?
This question goes for all pokemon media - mainline games, spin-offs, anime, manga, whatever.
