the point of a gym leader isn't juat to beat trainers, it's to test them. and if a trainer is capable of realising that their team isn't the best for a certain situation and actually try to fix that instead of slamming their head against a wall over and over, then they probably deserve the badge.

You can't get a jolteon by that point, and even if you do, pin needle is a joke of an attack. For the rest, see >>52705470
The only counter is using another psychic with hypnosis, or another alakazam. Also, paralyzing kinda works well for some reason.

Most pokemon have shit special, and the ones who have high special are all psychic types
You would do more damage using electric or even water attacks than just hitting with a normal attack, unless you use something like blastoise

These games are unbalanced because the optimal strategy is to solo the entire thing with Blastoise. Ranting about how impossible the solutions for these """hard""" gyms are when you're restricting yourself is pointless because gen 1 is by it's very nature completely braindead. Yes, it's unbalanced, you said it yourself. The solution is to not give the games more credit than they're due. Anyone not a zoomer replaying RBY for the whatever millionth time will do it with artificial restrictions the game clearly wasn't meant to have. A stream where the game was played through audience voting went viral because it's technically possible to play it completely braindead like that. You're not supposed to. By design you can use absolutely whatever because every single kid who played these games when they came out did with an overleveled starter, and anyone who played it back then and still insists on playing them repeatedly is a manchild.

No one has ever needed Pin Missile from Jolteon or Beedrill to defeat Sabrina in Gen 1. The game gives you so many nonlinear options that you can even use Articuno or Zapdos to destroy her.

From my observations of other kids growing up, charshitters and other brainlet kids didn't really use ANYTHING other than their starter so it was probably like level 20 by the time they even faced Brock. So the type advantage didn't really matter if you just overleveled one Pokemon.

I don't think so. I just played RGB again yesterday, beating all the Bug Catchers in Viridian Forest, and the trainer at Brock's gym will get you to Lv 12 at max. Bulbasaur doesn't learn Vine Whip until Lv. 13. Normally, at this point, I doubt that anyone has had the time to grind to level 20.

You've never met a young kid. My five year old had a full team of level 20s in SV before he even tried the first gym, because he's constantly catching pokemon. I showed him how picnics work with eggs and now whenever he finds a new pokemon, he tries to find a male and female so they can make eggs. Kids just get immersed in Pokemon games, and I'm quite certain if I set him up with Red version he'd probably just wander around and look for every single Pokemon he could and try to evolve them.
