>>52705835There'll be a new system by 2024 as Game Freak won't release a third Gen on this system. Go read the Iwata asks interviews about HGSS and BW, they talk about how they need to feel they're able to make distinctions between game Gens, mentioning how going into BW they were unsure they'd be able to make a distinction between it and DPPt, which also appeared on DS. SS and SV are distinct enough to be they're own thing. But Switch isn't good enough internally to let GF make Gen 10 look something completely different from SV.
There's also the Zelda rule - all Nintendo systems get their own unique Zelda games, some admittedly more than one, but even on systems that get more than one, the entries are still fundamentally different to each other to not feel like copy/pastes of each other (OoT/MM on N64, LA/OoS+OoA,on GameBoy, TP/SS on Wii, looks like BotW and TotK will follow suit, as we seem to be going back to trad dungeon crawling in an open world).
There's not enough to make another Smash, one riding the coat-tails of "EVERYONE IS HERE!" and the celebration of the series to-date, different to Smash U, without actually fucking out "EVERYONE IS HERE" and going full-bore into their future intended structure. And if they have to do that to make it stand out from Smash U, best just to wait until the new system an announce the changes for Smash Future. I'd bet they've pivoted to the new system's iteration as soon as they finished Smash DLC, with an eye for releasing within the first year of the system. The Smash crowd are still gonna play it, it's gonna pick up fresh sales in holiday sales and the like and it's more than earned its share of revenue for Nintendo. No need for another Smash on Sitch, when they can just get Sakurai to work on Smash Future for the next system.
