They're supposed to look like waves, and while the batsymbol ontop of the unibrows might be a bit much I think the sculpting on the beard does an excellent job.

At least those were unique to the gyms they’re at. this fetchquest was so bad I ended up skipping his gym and fighting Larry first, and needless to say when I got back to him I curbstomped him. The actual “trial” of his is outright something you can do throughout the game, regardless of how much of a scam it is, and is literally just a tutorial on how the auction shit works.

That would be Alfornada, but that doesn't say much as most Paldea cities are meh
Also the screen fading away for the elevators to come down gives me the C

Really? The only thing in and around Alfornada I like myself is the Gen 1 sprite art around the gym arena.
Otherwise it's pretty meh, and the buildings are architecturally unique, but not super aesthetically pleasing compared to the white of Cascarrafa.
Cascarrafa just has beautiful water features, a nice verticality to the city that really makes it stand out with the lifts, as well as the surrounding geography is diverse.

Alfornada really out of all the gym cities stood out the least to me.

Frankly, the fact that the majority of cities in this game are just blocks that prop sandwhich menus really made me feel nothing for any of the cities. I never thought Id say I miss going inside buildings in Pokemon, but the ability to avtually interact with the environment makes a huge imapact on if I'll remember it. Even tje most boring fuck all town from Sinnoh stands out more.

He was the first gym I attempted and he promptly beat my ass, so coming back later when I was a bit stronger made him become more memorable to me than the others.
