Bulbasaur and Ivysaur were designed after Venusaur (and by a different person) so it was them that was different

he is truly a terrible artist. He claims that he intentionally makes bad designs so people don't call him out for being an awful design.
all the popular pokemon were design by Nishida and he didn't make a single popular Pokemon except Gengar.

Because Gen 5 was a soft-reboot to Gen1 according to Gamefreak.
