Why did GF feel like going all out this gen with really strong / OP abilities and moves with little to no drawbacks?

And theres still more, and if they ever got distributed to other mons imagine the balancing issues

I think glaive rush has the biggest drawback of any move
It basically guarantees you die on the nest turn to a marshmallow being gently tossed in your direction

Thats fair but just being able to spam a 120 bp move if youre faster and can 1 shot is crazy. One or two DDs and no fairies or steel types on the opponents team is free (barring priority too).

Since, if im not mistaken, its also the first time they make a video promoting the competitive aspect of the game, I think their intention Is to draw more people into online battle so they get hooked after postgame and keep farming raids etc.

Im not complaining, id much rather this than shitty/useless moves and abilities like plus and minus water/fire/grass pledge. I just hope it doesnt make other moves and abilities redundant or feel like the drawback is too great.

Earth eater is just one of many type immunity abilities though. I think a better example is comparing well baked body to water compaction.

Thats a better example, they should buff water compaction so it gives water immunity. Even as is, its not worth it to let your palossand take water attacks anyway. It feels like this gen added the most abilities that give type immunities too.

it's what's fans want. No one wants to use a worthless unviable trash. If Game Freak were competent they'd share some of that love to the shitmons from older gens instead of restricting all the love to CHARIZARD and the FOTM shillmons.

And if it does go to another Pokemon, it'll only be for Mons with below 100 attack stat, because it'll be used as an alternative for Mons who doesn't have Huge Power or Sheer Force, and it'll have to make sense on the Mon they are giving to like, for example they can't just give to a Mon who doesn't have something to hammer things with.

Yep. They made it easier to access battle items, mints, etc so instead of fighting NPCs, you play online. There's probably ~20 million copies in the wild and still less than 100k that ever touch online. VGC is fun imo.

Gen 9 really seems like the most thought they've put into competitive.

They've been making strong signature moves/abilities since gen 7, Gholdengo's stuff is the only one that really stands out but that was probably intentional with it being the #1000 shillmon.
