Calyrex is a legendary. It's have the stats of one in it's fusion form, it's a boxart/mascot, and it's know to be one in the game files.

Glad i'm not the only one that mentally compartmentalises mythicals into Cute/Pixie archetype and Powerful/Cool archetype

I'd say Hoopa falls into both categories depending on it's form (Hoopa-Confined definitely has the size/body type to be a Mew-like).

You can still battle and trade when the new Pokemon aren't present. LGPE can't communicate with gen 7 games at all.

Mythicals like those haven't been a thing since gen 5, unless you consider hoopa and marshadow but unless they're small and a base 100 in everything i don't consider them a mythical

We haven’t had a true “Mew” since generation 5.

General requirements:
600 base stat total.
100 for all stats.
Single stage.
Generally small and cute.
Limited distribution.

I'd say 100 in all stats is optional for a mew-like mythical in terms of design/appeal. Marshadow is definitely more akin to Mew than it is Deoxys/Darkrai despite also being fairly strong in battle.

Meltan and Melmetal are between Zeroara and Grookey in the National Dex. They can be transferred into LGPE, a Gen 7 game where only Gen 1 and Gen 7 Pokémon (Alolan forms) are otherwise available. They were independently revealed months before the formal announcement of Gen 8 in February 2019, which was done with the traditional reveal of the starters and box legendaries with no mention of Meltan or Melmetal.
