Not necessarily ironic. Just negative, and with some form of relation or poetry.
Wishing you were cured of cancer but when you are, your mom gets cancer isn’t a perfect monkey’s paw wish but it works. Getting cured, but then dying in a car crash on the way home from the hospital isn’t one at all. There has to be a lesson in there. It is literally the origin of “be careful what you wish for” and must be cautionary because the entire and only point is to warn against laziness, quick fixes, and so on. It’s about accepting your fate and dealing with natural negative things with grace, etc.. Things could ALWAYS be worse in life.
