Considering the fact that its body mates(Cinderace and Lucario) did get pushed towards being naturally male of a lot of people; if they wanted to it definitely could have been pushed as a guy.
Its only really the animations that push it in a different direction. This isn't a braixen type Lucario body which is notably different from the norm; its the same pants and everything.

Everyone else seems to think so too. Spent ages trying to get Quaxley via Surprise Trade. Lots and lots and Sprigatito, a respectable number of Fuecoco but not a Quaxley to be seen. Eventually I managed to get one, but it's definitely the least-picked starter with Sprigagtito being the most-picked. The Quaxley I got was a girl too, so no gay duck for me.

Based on what i've gauged thats not really the case either, they're louder in a sense i suppose.
But more people post about cat on average, its just that its less extreme. Generally its pretty casually mentioned whereas a lot of Skeledirge posts are trying to preach that its the best thing ever.
Or that it sucks and is ugly, there is rarely an inbetween. The posts are certainly more memorable but its not really a quantity thing really.

Fuecoco always struck as the obvious secondary shillmon(though that leaves the final left to rot realistically)

Sprigs overall performance in terms of popularity has been pretty consistent, its just that it lacks people trying to aggressively shill it.

Yeah Sprig got somewhat hurt by the trend of bipedal starters but I don't think it'll have a huge effect on it overall. I think Skeledirge will have some spotlight on it and popularity while the quax line...might just end up as some of the least popular in the series.

Much like the bipedal nature of sprig's evos the Intelleon hate is largely contained to certain parts of the internet. The design appeals heavily to girls and the concept of spies and snipers are naturally appealing to the average person. Time will tell for the duck, all I can really say is that I'm looking forward to seeing where all the gen 9 mons end up.
