Red is just a sort of "super post game boss".(You have to beat some super trainers and then he shows up in front of the league or something) He's also basically just a modern version of the gen 1 design if you don't know. Weirdly he's not using the autism team from HGSS/GS.
Lets Go is a sequel so he's just the usual "after both him and Blue beat the league" type stuff in terms of plot(Blue has a decent amount of relevance in terms of appearances but Red doesn't; though Red is beaten out by even Green due to the gimmick he's cursed with)
The game names always fuck with me, i keep on wanting to do the japanese names.
