While much later than the early 00s. I still remember the strong YGO vibes that the Black and White animated trailer had and how many people at the time were wishing that the anime would go through cycles similar to how YGO did it.
I still kind of wish that had actually been the case. I still rewatch this sometimes, thinking about what could have been.

Clear geniuses at work considering JN did complete shit and couldn't actually handle its own gimmick. But yes, that is what the announcement says.
"Across the pokemon world" unless they're suffering from some significant miscommunication(considering the fact that the jap page noted the canned footage of shiny rayquaza was something important, there's actually a decent chance of that).

This doesn't solve the root problem of why the anime isn't watched. Changing protags doesn't solve the root cause, it only treats the "symptoms". The main root cause is TPCI's "international standards" sanitized the series of all the irrelevant goofiness, plus it's so commercialized that it can't even have fun character interactions or inspire awe.
