>>52781618Not OP, but I think the most disappointing facet of the Johto starters is that they're not really that unique for an in-game playthrough. Typhlosion is Charizard with worse coverage, Meganium is Bulbasaur with Reflect/Lightscreen, but lacking Leech Seed other than an Egg move, and Feraligatr has high Attack but without a lot of good physical moves, and Johto has plenty of other water-type options.
Even if their designs are good, the fact that they don't have many interesting or unique options compared to other mons of the type simply make them less exciting by default. Chikorita is the only one where it seems like they tried for an interesting moveset, although using your starter as a support pokemon isn't exactly a concept with widespread appeal either.
