Terastallization could very well destroy competitive battling as we know it, in a similar way to how Mega Evolution destroyed it in the past! How do you feel about Terastallization taking over competitive battling?

Theres no way terastalization is worse than megas. Its just mind games with resistances you just have to stay one step ahead of them

Personally, I still prefer Megas because of the cool designs, but I can see why some people might prefer Terastallization instead! It's a really cool gimmick too, so I can see the appeal. And I can see why people might prefer it too. There are a lot of interesting mind games you can do with Terastallization, and it's always cool to see people predict which type their opponent is going to use.

Tera is pretty based, there's a wide application for how it can be used. Sometimes you want to use it offensively, sometimes defensively. There's thought that goes into which works best for your team, and when it's appropriate for which mon on your team to use it (or even if it's appropriate to use it). I'm glad they made something even better than Dynamax.

This. It's no different than shit like type resist berries or other items that are only there specifically to catch you by surprise.
It might add more variance, but it's nowhere near as busted as some of the new mons by themselves

What, no, Megas were awful for comp because they actively kneecapped teambuilding and had almost zero variation. Tera does what Dynamax tried to do but in a much more balanced way, being useful both offensively and defensively and every single mon in the game benefits from it while not being overpowered.

Indirectly, yes. Because Tera is so unpredictable and VGC players move in herds of gossiping little bitches, they've made the format open team sheet, which totally ruins (balanced) surprise techs.
imo they should update the battle screen to show what tera each pokemon has and keep the held items and movesets secret

Z-moves took up an item slot in exchange for a nuke or a tech move, in RARE cases both(soul blaze). But that was it just one big move and its over

Megas were fucked though.

>Made good pokemon broken
Some pokemon like Sableye and Kangaskhan were really cool with how it changed them up but most just got a power boost that outdone by stronger pokemon getting the same level of power boost.

If megas were reworked to boost every pokemon to the same bst (600/650 or something) then they would be a lot nicer competitively, you could take a step further and give every pokemon that doesnt have a mega form a mega energy form until they get them. Of course some would be still be better than others but it would be far less egregious

Last thing I want to say is that conceptually megas and z moves are the best. I can imagine some people playing pokemon and thinking "What if pokemon had super forms" or "what if pokemon could do 1 big attack every fight" changing types whenever to want kinda feels like it goes against what pokemon is about and fucking wumbo mode is pants on head retarded
