>>52796637>>52796748I prefer having to interact with the world, whether that's trudging through deep snow and marshes, walking through sandstorms and deep fog, ascending waterfalls, diving deep into the ocean, bringing a specific bike to find hidden paths, and making use of a variety of resources to traverse a route and finding hidden items, Trainers, and Pokémon for doing so. Of course elements of a route will be optional, but I don't want the main path of every route to be simplistic while all the interesting stuff is put off to the side. Suddenly you're no longer the guy overcoming obstacles to advance through the world and coming out more experienced but the autist choosing to walk through the woods to the side when there's a straight road with your destination right in front of you. My favorite routes are gauntlet routes that go on for ages and wear down your party as you try to do every last thing on them, and Mt. Coronet is my favorite dungeon because of its ascension and the fact that you have to make use of numerous HMs to ascend it. The atmosphere, music, snowy exterior, constant presence throughout the story, and Spear Pillar/Distortion World/Hall of Origin really elevate it above Mt. Silver which took inspiration from it in HGSS.
To roughly paraphrase a line from Matthewmatosis' BotW video, "players don't want to teleport to the destination, they want to cut down trees with an axe and use them to cross a gorge".
