I'm surprised it wasn't an Alolan Onix. Maybe with an ability that can invert the weaknesses and strengths of its typing, since it resisted Water but was vulnerable to Fire.

So then why didn't Ash see most of the pokemon at the start of his journey as basic route 1 pokemon? He was still pulling out his dex and questioning what everything was, so it's not like he knew all the pokemon in Kanto.
