Gyarados is such a fucking cool Pokémon.

How did they get it so right, just like that?

Having it evolve from Magikarp is genius too. They both also have absolutely iconic shinies thanks to Gen 2.

Let's discuss Gyarados in depth in this thread. What makes it such an amazing design?

It’s the rarity of it that really sells it. Even when it’s used by NPCs you only really catch a glimpse of it after you hit it with a thunderbolt.

Based anon, Gyarados is my all-time favorite since gen1(always by the magikarp from The Magikarp salesman) and it was the first shiny I happened on in scarlet. I was thrilled to see my boy.

The lore behind it is brilliant as well, drawing from The legend of the koi who jumped over the dragon's gate in order to become a dragon. The Magikarp and Gyarados line is the embodiment of strength through ultimate persistence
