>>52798546its supposed to be chinese i think.
they're the evil counterparts to the genies therian form's four auspicious beasts.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Four_Perilsthough the only ones I can recognize are Chien-Pao being Qióngqí (to the chinese it's winged and tiger-like, but to the japanese it's the same as Kamaitachi, i.e. Sneasel. Compromise, they made snow leopard tiger tally+spaceworld beta sneasel) and Ting-Lu with Tāotiè (it both looks like the monster and is literally wearing the bronze bowl Taotie's are frequently depicted on).
Neither the snail nor the fish are a Taowu though.
There's a possibility that Chi-Yu is the equivalent, as the Taowu has also been connected to the criminal Gǔn, whose name means Big Fish.
But then again, taken literally, Taowu means Ignorant Block Stump, which could sort of lean towards the snail. I don't really understand the name because Taowu doesn't remotely resemble a stump, i guess it's just in relation to its unyielding stupidity? But there would be a certain fitting irony in making a scholar's records of kingly misdeeds the monster known for willful ignorance and slaughter in the face of teaching. Historian! Stop writing I do bad shit! Sire, I merely transcribe your actions, if your legacy concerns you perhaps do fewer bad things? FUCK YOU OFF WITH HIS HEAD
Most annoyingly just to confuse things, Taoitie is sometimes claimed to have the face of the legendary criminal... Chi-You. God i hate this fucking language.
If the snail is Taowu, then picrel is the fish? it is red and yellow, but i could hardly say it has 4 wings, 6 legs, and no face. Even claims that it's a bird of some kind still doesn't get you to fish.
As for the name, hwoo boy. Hundun can get you either "Primordially Chaotic Torrent," "Confused Confusion," "Thoughtless Sincerity and Innocence," or "Muddy and Dull." I suppose lava goldfish does get across both the primordial abyss and "no thoughts head empty" connotations to a degree.
